When Sanction Speaks

Saturday, September 10, 2022
Perhaps, out of the orbit of realism driven by succulent ingredient of crystal clear practicality which for some obvious reasons regimented into being cowed into total submission, and knowing well enough of being unconcerned about honor an disgrace; fairly elected to darken the path not to know that all recipes worthy of sanction was long coming; yet the administration openly rejected the best thing to do; and that is paused, and turn activities and development around with attached positive spin to reflect the truest sense of compliance with the globally accepted best practice for the better in leadership.
Before sanction speaks, a renowned Human Rights Lawyer, Cllr. Tiawon S. Gongloe; it may have sounded very comical to some, but accused the country and is people and indicated that both (country and people) would be held liable for child labor. What he was actually alluding to was simple in scope, but grave in actuality that Liberians gave President George M. Weah a job he’s very much unable to perform at all and is seriously struggling to cope at the detriment of the state and majority of the people; in his (Gongloe’s) dramatic illustration, it amounts to loading a 100 pounds of a bag of rice on the bare head of a four-year old child to carry to a destination so far away for six uninterrupted hours. Indeed, that’s complete abused of child labor, and the people must, without second thought, answer to the fate of the poor child.
Quite frankly, the sanction did not arrive abruptly, no. The writing was very much vividly written on the wall, it could clearly be seen in the eyes of the storm, it then started to offensively smell all over the place, massive internal cries and wailings were amplified and exemplified ; still the regime blatantly refused to change course and head in the most respectful direction expected from all; knowing, yet negating the law and working of nature as being made practical to all created-for example, before the thunder growls , there must first be a flash of the lightning.
At last, the sanction had to start speaking as some politically self-believed golden leafs wantonly began rumbling and crashing to the ground in absolute shame and scandal that all could see and hear. Today, it is glaring as everyone, directly or indirectly soberly reflects on the symbolic maxim about the hunter, the fine shot and the sassy and can’t hear or listen monkey. ..yes indeed, this song has been sung or heard at one time or the other.
They Were Told Of Their Fate
Collectively, they were told of their fate as the vibration of sanction continues to roan with more names are slated to spring out from the box.
As corruption pierces the brains, kidneys of the state and punches up the lungs and livers including every inner organs of the state by the governing elites, which was of late, re-emphasized as justification for the beauty of those who steal the money of the country and spent it right in the county; as opposed to those who steal the same state’s money and take it out of the country, buy and establish properties in strange lands are the ones who robbed the people and state without exercising the sense of belonging.
This has been the twisted justification that suspended Minister of State Nathaniel Farlo McGill has been craving for on bended knees to have the citizens of Bong County to be indoctrinated into, that the money he is accused of stealing is re-spent right here in the country, houses from the spoils are built here;; unlike those who steal, take everything out of the country and build ivory towers, palaces, mansions, villas and business empires at the detriment of the growth, development and prosperity of the people and state.
In the same vein, the Head of the Liberia Council of Churches (LCC), Dr. Samuel Reeves has lashed out that the Pro-Poor Agenda unleashed by the current government as its political and philosophical working roadmap, has been hijacked by extreme poverty, is badly heartbreaking.
Also, presidential hopeful, Cllr. Tiawan Gongloe has squarely blamed President George Weah for the “massive corruption” under his administration.
Addressing a group of citizens in Bong County over the weekend, Cllr. Gongloe said, Weah, as president, is not leading by example owing to the questionable wealth he is amassing since he became President.
His comments come on the back of a scathing attack against the President last week where he questioned the President’s source of wealth.
Speaking at the Nelson Mandela Intellectual Forum in the Red Hill Field Community in district #17 in Montserrado County on Wednesday, April 20, Cllr. Gongloe claimed that the Liberian leader has tainted his legacies achieved during his footballing days due to his alleged failure to actualize promises made to the Liberian people and make public the source of funding for his personal projects.
He pointed out that up in Gbarnga, Bong County during a citizen engagement exercise; in an interaction with members at the Bong County Intellectual Forum, the former President of the Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA) called on President Weah to lead by example.
“Government is a dignified place for service, not for stealing and not for getting opportunity for yourself. That’s why we are going to bring to state power,” he said.
He continued: “because when the President does not steal, the people under him will not steal. President George Weah built 47 condominiums opposite Baptist Seminary. Immediately after that, Samuel Tweah, Jr., (Nathaniel) McGill and everybody built houses as if they are owners of real estate companies. Our President is more of a real estate manager than a president. He has the obligation to tell us where he is getting the money.”
The “trademark” of the Congress for Democratic Change’s (CDC’s) elites has clearly been exemplified from the erection of gigantic structures and compounds reflective of mansions and while transforming the landscape quizzically, pundits are craving to establish if these huge erected structures are footed from the owners’ respective pay checks.
According to pundits, most of those now proudly parading these mansions, were shacking in one-room apartments, and yet could not even avoid to underwrite the rental fees before entering into the workforce of this government, but are today, the owners of newly built mansions and compounds of which their individual pay checks cannot withstand; even if they had worked for the next 20 years, they won’t even come near in sourcing such money to erect the expensive flashy structures scattered all over the place.
While it is equally so pathetic, that the elites are entrenched anti-transparency and anti-accountability gurus from the strike of any imagination, the infamous spree of questionable numerous erected mansions located at strategic areas, many of those close to assignments and positions that generate direct physical cash, and also appeared to know the name of the game, grab-and-get-rich-quick-at-all-cost-and-cause, because there is no “gbe-led” (fool) in the oracle, let alone, dummy does not cut scent (cards); cleverly and keenly imitate their seniors in shady opportunities, and without second though, jumped into the coco-party by amazingly amassing ill-gotten wealth and properties on a very rapid scale, knowing that they too will not be interrogated for the overnight achievements in wealth and cash.
Although they hate to be told that there is no acceptable cogent evident to legitimize their expensively overnight built mansions nor any morally credible explanations, despite trampling underfoot, the Code of Conduct thus rending it totally insignificance in the face of “mansions competition” that overwhelms the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC); in spite that they conned the system to propel them in such undesirable and quizzical ownership of the vast wealth and properties they have accrued; they, at the same time, remain practically acknowledgeable from media reports and information provided on several phone-in-talk-shows which point directly to corruption of the highest magnitude, that is now oozing its toxic garbage which has pathetically defaced and deformed people’s trust and confidence in the ruling establishment, thereby making it very difficult to clean up from the landscape up to the celebration of International Anti-Corruption Day which has bitten so hard that Liberia is now being placed on the active radar with former notorious warlord and Senator of Nimba County, Evangelist Prince Y. Johnson being hooked and slapped with corruption sanction.
With this warning shot from the US Government, which should, in no uncertain term, serve as an unhindered caveat to all those serving in the public space (government), can no matter the status; that all ill-gotten wealth and cash siphoned from the coffers of the government, will sooner than later, be made to account for, as the Economic Crime Court will soon get its full legal iron teeth to chew up such toxic belongings, with massive confiscation of unjustified wealth, and freezing of the huge cash taken active center space without any form of backdoor compromise. So true, the time is coming, and very soon, we’ll see the actual true owners with clean hands, therein, the tallest chickens shall be seen by all after the rain (trial).

From the strike of any imagination, no nation, has ever obtained fruitful glory and praiseworthiness for its growth and envious development, when it proudly accommodates impunity to all who engaged in criminology, wanton killing of professionals as well as innocent and defenseless citizens; insecurity, whose leaders from top to bottom are major shareholders of stealing from state coffers, gross violations of human rights including unseriousness in the art of leadership and craft of good governance.
Moreover, in a nation where the citizens take great pride in building a country based on the respect for the rule of law, wherein no one is absolutely in the truest sense and meaning of the word, is above the law; where the leadership is not entrenched in cronyism, sycophantic belly-driven glee club and the perpetual blind loyalists who see nothing wrong with the rapid nose-dive sinking posture the country and people are pathetically strapped into, due to the bad leadership being imposed on them in any form, manner and style.
At the same time, Mr. Alexander B. Cummings stated that, “the careless and irresponsible attitude of the Liberian Government is being exposed. Under this George Weah-led Government, Liberia continues to be internationally disgraced, shamed and laughed at”.
Giving people justice and ending impunity are not issues over which any responsible government ought to wait to be publicly chastised by its international partners. These are things responsible governments do to cleanse the soul of a nation, and to keep countries secure, stable and peaceful, Cummings noted
We have all seen what it means for our country to breakdown and become lawless. And so, Liberia does not need to wait and be reminded to do the things we need to do to build a more just society that will punish crimes. This is the only way to make our society truly law-abiding, he said.
Cummings indicated that however, it is hard to stop stealing in government when the people who should be stopping the stealing, and setting the good examples by not stealing, are actually the rogues. It is also hard to punish anyone for crimes, however bad, when the leaders are looking for special favors from the criminals, or are themselves, benefiting from the crimes.
Cummings intoned that whether it is done by Presidents or Ministers – whether it is done by a friend, opposition, or relative – stealing from the people is wrong. We cannot continue to pretend that one day, stealing in government will stop by itself. We have to stop it ourselves, because as we continue to see, it is keeping too many of our people poor.
He also noted that whether it is done by warlords or presidents, killing involved. Innocent people, mysteriously or in the name of war, is also wrong. To stop it, we must investigate seriously and punish anyone
So true, amazing things happen when sanction speaks.
