The Head of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Liberia Office, Dale Gbotoe, has announced the results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), with candidates recording strong performances in several core academic subjects.
According to Gbotoe, Mathematics recorded the highest pass rate among the major academic subjects, with 44,671 of the 54,135 candidates who sat the examination passing, representing 82.5 percent. Economics followed with 42,076 passes out of 53,289 candidates, translating to a 78.96 percent pass rate, while Geography recorded 43,136 passes from 54,870 candidates, representing 78.62 percent.
English Language recorded 42,036 passes out of 55,592 candidates, for a 75.62 percent pass rate. Chemistry followed with a 75.24 percent pass rate, as 37,963 of 50,454 candidates passed. History recorded 37,940 passes from 51,155 candidates, representing 74.17 percent.
Biology recorded 37,223 passes from 52,894 candidates, giving a 72.37 percent pass rate, while Physics recorded 36,374 passes out of 50,523 candidates, representing 71.97 percent.
However, Literature-in-English recorded the lowest performance among the major academic subjects, with only 16,505 of 51,606 candidates passing, representing a 31.98 percent pass rate.
Meanwhile, WAEC reported a 100 percent pass rate in several technical and vocational subjects. Candidates who sat subjects including Auto Mechanics, Blocklaying and Concrete Works, Plumbing and Pipefitting, Technical Drawing, and Welding and Fabrication Engineering Craft Practice all successfully passed.
WAEC is encouraging schools across Liberia to place greater emphasis on technical and vocational education, as part of efforts to expand practical skills development and prepare young people for employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.
