This photo perfectly illustrates the inherent deception of politicians in Liberia. This is Saah Joseph, Senator of Montsserrado who is widely known for multiple travels abroad to beg for charity. He solicits aid in the name of Montserrado county and when the aid comes he donates it in his name and generates political capital. He deviates from the constitutional functions of a lawmaker and engages in political charity as a means of retaining his seat in the 2023 election. He is the Chair of the Executive in the Senate and does George Weah’s bidding there from which he amass huge benefits. He is extremely corrupt and one of the pay-for-play Senators who vote for anything for a ‘Brown envelope’ in return. He has no record of championing a major bill in the interest of the country. He has no independent and constructive position on trending national debates. Here he carries a 20kg bag of rice on his head to prove his humility, but the paradox is that he rides a US$70k vehicle at the expense of a poor country.
