“Tear Down Those Billboards” -Declares Rainbow Chairman Goodridge

The never-tired- violator of the Constitution and other cardinal norms of the country, President George M. Weah has been chided for misinterpreting the basic idea for the referendum which is aimed at making some “amendments” in the constitution and not “change” as being misleading reflective on the billboards posted at strategic areas in Monrovia.

According to the National Rainbow Alliance Executive Committee, Mr. Reginald Goodridge, billboards bearing the photograph of President Weah are misinforming the Liberian people regarding amending the country’s 1986 Constitution.

The Rainbow Alliance (RA) comprising the largest group of registered political parties in Liberia has been granted authorization by the National Elections Commission (NEC) to operate as a single political institution pending the certification process.

Reiterating further, the Timetable released by the National Elections Commission, the official launch of Referendum Outreach and Media Campaign is October 16, 2020. Hence, the publication and display of awareness materials carrying the image of the President of Liberia campaigning for the Referendum far ahead of the NEC timetable is a gross violation of the Laws governing the electoral process.

The justification of Proposition 1 (Article 28) as contained in the Gazette is sadly biased, selfish, and insensitive to the long standing issues of economic exclusion of underprivileged Liberians’ active ownership of the economy. The Referendum favors the political elites as can be exemplified in the protection of jobs than the economic survival of the Liberian people.

On the issue of dual citizenship, Proposition 1 (Article 28) is deeply flawed, draconian and opens the possibility of loopholes and fraud in the assumption of Liberian citizenship

Despite calls from many quarters of the society for the postponement of the holding of the referendum on December 8, the very day the senatorial by-election is to take place, Mr. Emmanuel Kedilar, a social worker and Martha Weardee, a marketer in the commercial hub of the Redlight community also told PARROT Tuesday, September 1, 2020 that they were adding their voices to command and control President Weah  continues to exhibit  by not listening to the many calls and cries of the people apart from his political bad habit of uprightly disrespecting the  constitution and other laws of the nation.

Kedilar and Weardee pointed out that it is expedient for President Weah to slow down, listen to the people whose mandate he is riding on so high and be mindful also that in politics, you will and cannot get everything you need and want, adding, it is a game of give and take; that shows a leadership that is receptive and not completely adamant and totally dominant in all capacities.

They want President Weah to know deeply and squarely from where he is coming from; putting it biblically, they urged him to look back to the rock from whence he was hewn; the quarry from where he was dug; while carefully and smartly fashioning himself into the only society he knows and have; and desist from bulldozing issues and politically-charged challenges that will desecrate his legacy when history starts its harsh judgments on worldly leaders with their deeds and actions.

At the same time, political observers noted that President Weah’s political sense of rationalization and execution of vested authority can be seen clearly from the position of absolute weakness yet driven by terrifying motive as portrayed on the various billboards posted around the city with all the four items that he envisaged to go his way hinged on YES vote, something they see as dangerous,  unfortunate, pathetic  and preposterous for a country as old as 173 years with nothing practically meaningful and useful to present globally nor represent auspiciously.

They believe that just as it was stated by his (Weah’s) troubled-prone Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor in Gbarnga that it is their time (all high profile members of the Coalition for Democratic Change and those favored) to eat; remains the ardent platform Weah and the hierarchy of the latter are subscribing to; and moving into ruthlessly into organized things without remorse.

Also, they maintained that Weah is the arrow head in the four counts displayed on the various billboards directly pointed to all YES vote and with the distribution of rice and cash inducement on the rampage, any opposing vision without hesitation, will be struck down at all cause; because what Weah wants he must get in Weah’s Liberia, and not bother about the aftershock. Is the referendum most needed at this time when all energy, time, interest and desired focus heavily lumbered on the senatorial election or that something Weah wants to  achieve much sooner than later  and so he must hurry up while he still holds the gravel of state’s authority? They wondered.

Meanwhile on July 20, 2020, Frontpageafrica published an article captioned “The Great Liberian Referendum-2020.” According to the article, the December 2020 referendum calls on Liberian voters to “turn [the] clock on history” by voting on four politician-favored initiatives; reduction of politicians’ term of office, “President from 6 years to five years; Senators from nine years to seven years; Representatives from six years to five years, allow dual citizenship.”

In the article written by Rev. Torli H. Krua he echoed, “I call on all Liberian voters to reject and vote NO on all questions within the 2020 referendum because not a single one of the ballot questions aims to address the urgent concerns of citizens such as the root causes of abject poverty, war crimes, endemic corruption, excessive salaries and benefits of politicians”.

The omitted citizens’ concerns have reduced our mineral-rich nation to the #1 poorest country on earth. Meanwhile, America that enslaved and colonized Liberia is the richest country on earth. In Liberia’s corrupt system of governance, politicians become instant millionaires. To address citizens’ concerns for the very first time in 200 years, I call on all Liberians to urgently demand a public hearing into the original purpose for which Liberia was founded, the origins of systemic corruption, and 200 years of American Slave Masters’ deception. We have written to all three branches of the Liberian government on this urgent citizens’ concern and await their response as paid public servants.

The 2020 referendum, like all previous historical ballots, are poison pills designed to empower and enrich politicians and it’s not what the citizens want. The process is controlled by the servants (politicians), not the Masters, the citizens. Like the politician-favored referendum, politicians also set excessive salaries and benefits. Liberian citizens will remain powerless and in bondage if they keep voting the politicians’ agenda.

It’s an uttermost disgrace for Africans in general and Liberians in particular that for 200 years, the first republic in Africa proudly bears the insignia of American Slave Masters as well as the emblems that honor Slave Masters and Liberia’s White Supremacists founding fathers. It’s time to demand a new authentic African nation designed by African citizens to empower the citizens and guarantee equal opportunities for all before worrying about the non-issues of the 2020 Referendum that favors only politicians and foreigners.

A public hearing is necessary because our research proves that the Republic of Liberia was designed by foreign slave masters, not citizens. General Robert Goodloe Harper, a white American who supported the removal and colonization of free African Americans in Africa but not freedom for African Americans in America, described free Blacks as “…greater nuisance than even slaves themselves.” Harper coined the deceptive name ‘Liberia’. Harper also suggested the name change of the colonial capital city from Christopolis (city of Christ) to Monrovia (city of Monroe-a white slave owner who never freed his slaves).

If the free African Americans were truly free, why couldn’t they be allowed to name their own country or choose their leaders in ‘Liberia’? The names Liberia, Monrovia, Buchanan, Bushrod Island, Clay-Ashland are all relics of white supremacism that should have been swept away since 1847 if Liberia was truly an independent African country.

Not a single African nationalist, or Black or White American abolitionist’s name (Douglass, Stowe, Garrison, or Sojourner Truth) appears on anything significant in Liberia. Only the Slave Masters and Americans who protected slavery are our heroes. From General Harper in the East to Monroe and Bushrod in the West, Liberia treasures only American Slave Masters, not Africans or abolitionists.

When the winds of change started blowing across Africa, the Gold Coast, named by Europeans for what they most valued, the natural resources, not the people, became independent Ghana. Leopoldville was changed to Kinshasa. Upper Volta became Burkina Faso. Rhodesia became Zimbabwe and Salsbury was changed to Harare.  Liberia, on the other hand, remained branded by Slave Masters before and after independence- corrupt, poor and bankrupt economically, morally, culturally, and educationally!

In the words of the American Slave Masters who founded Liberia, “...the colonization of the free people of color will render the slave who remains in America more obedient, more faithful, more honest, and, consequently, more useful to his master, is it proper to regard this happy consequence to both, as the sole object which the Society (ACS) hopes to attain…”

In 2020 Liberia is sinking under skyrocketing unemployment for college graduates, our roads are impassable, our bridges-broken, schools, health delivery systems are broken or nonexistent. Yet the salaries and benefits of Liberian politicians are higher than all American politicians; consistent with the Liberian saying; “99 days for rogues, but one day for the Master. “Douglass said, “Power concedes nothing without a demand.”
