Monrovia, Liberia – Liberia’s Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, has been selected as the National Orator for the country’s 179th National Flag Day celebration, placing him at the center of one of Liberia’s major national commemorative events.
Ngafuan is expected to deliver the keynote national address on Monday, August 24, 2026, as Liberia marks the 179th anniversary of Flag Day under the theme, “From Heritage to Hope: The Flag That Unites Us.”
His selection comes at a time when the government is emphasizing national unity, development and the need to translate Liberia’s historical achievements into tangible progress for its citizens.
As Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Ngafuan has played a central role in the Boakai administration’s economic management and development planning efforts. His appointment as Flag Day Orator therefore brings an economic and development perspective to this year’s national observance.
The Ministry of Finance and Development Planning officially announced Ngafuan as the 179th National Flag Day Orator on August 21, describing him as the minister who will serve in the prominent role during the national celebration.
The 2026 Flag Day celebration is expected to bring together senior government officials, lawmakers, diplomats, traditional leaders, civil society representatives and citizens from across Liberia.
The theme, “From Heritage to Hope: The Flag That Unites Us,” places emphasis on Liberia’s history while calling attention to the country’s shared responsibility to build a more united and prosperous future.
Ngafuan’s address is consequently expected to focus on the broader national challenges and opportunities facing Liberia, including development, economic growth, national cohesion and the responsibility of citizens to contribute to the country’s future.
