The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) has collected US$893 million in domestic revenue as of August 12, 2026, putting the Authority significantly closer to its US$1.3 billion target for the year and marking a major increase over its full-year collection in 2025.
The latest figures represent a US$45 million increase over the entire US$848 million collected in 2025, with nearly four months still remaining in the year.
The performance reflects what the LRA describes as continued efforts to strengthen domestic revenue mobilization through improved taxpayer compliance, modernization of revenue systems, expanded taxpayer engagement and accelerated digitalization.
Since Commissioner General James Dorbor Jallah assumed leadership of the LRA in March 2024, domestic revenue collections have maintained an upward trajectory.
Collections increased from US$699 million in 2024 to US$848 million in 2025, before reaching US$893 million by August 12, 2026.
If the current pace continues, the Authority could move significantly closer to its ambitious US$1.3 billion annual target, potentially making 2026 one of the strongest years for domestic revenue mobilization in recent history.
The LRA’s revenue performance has also drawn recognition from the government.
Minister of Finance and Development Planning Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, speaking during the National Steering Committee meeting marking the first year of implementation of the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID), commended Commissioner General Jallah and the LRA for their contribution to mobilizing resources for national development.
The recognition comes as the government continues to emphasize increased domestic resource mobilization as a key component of financing national development and reducing reliance on external resources.
The increase in collections has been linked to a series of reforms and administrative measures aimed at improving the efficiency of the tax system.
Under Commissioner General Jallah, the LRA has placed emphasis on strengthening compliance, modernizing revenue collection systems, expanding engagement with taxpayers and accelerating digital transformation.
These measures are intended to make revenue administration more efficient while improving the government’s ability to identify and collect taxes owed by individuals and businesses.
The Authority has also emphasized the importance of taxpayer compliance, with the latest figures reflecting not only institutional efforts but also contributions from businesses, individuals and other taxpayers meeting their statutory obligations.
The US$893 million collected so far represents a significant milestone for the LRA, particularly as the government seeks to expand its fiscal space to finance public services and development programs.
With US$407 million remaining to reach the US$1.3 billion target, the Authority has several months to close the gap.
The latest performance places the LRA on a potentially historic trajectory, but sustaining the momentum will depend on continued taxpayer compliance, effective enforcement, improved revenue administration and the successful implementation of ongoing reforms.
For Commissioner General Jallah and the LRA, the challenge now is to maintain the pace and translate increased domestic revenue into greater fiscal capacity for Liberia’s development priorities.
