Monrovia – The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) has clarified its recent recruitment notice targeting university honor graduates for entry-level Customs Officer positions, saying the names published were not a shortlist of successful applicants but a list of graduates whose contact information was unavailable.
The clarification follows questions and concerns raised by graduates, universities and members of the public after the LRA issued Public Notice PSA/LRA-11/FY 2026 regarding the recruitment exercise.
According to the LRA, it reviewed official graduation souvenir programs from the two most recent graduation ceremonies of selected universities and identified first-degree graduates who earned Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude or Summa Cum Laude honors during the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 academic years.
The Authority subsequently contacted the universities over several weeks to obtain telephone numbers and other contact information for the graduates identified.
While contact information was received for many graduates, the LRA said a substantial number remained without telephone details.
The Authority said the names published in its notice represent only those honor graduates whose contact information it was unable to obtain from their respective universities.
The publication, it said, was intended solely to allow those graduates to provide their contact details so they could be contacted during the recruitment process.
The LRA emphasized that the published list does not constitute a recruitment shortlist and does not mean that the individuals named have been selected for employment.
It also said being included on the list provides no advantage in the recruitment process, while graduates whose names were not published are not disadvantaged.
According to the Authority, graduates whose contact information was successfully submitted by their universities were excluded from the verification list because their details were already available to the LRA.
The Authority specifically noted that all qualifying honor graduates from Cuttington University were excluded from the published list because the university had fully provided their contact information.
Those graduates, the LRA said, are already captured in its records and will be contacted directly when appropriate.
The recruitment exercise covers honor graduates from the University of Liberia, Cuttington University, African Methodist Episcopal University, African Methodist Episcopal Zion University, Stella Maris Polytechnic University and Starz University.
The graduates must have earned their first-degree academic honors during the 2023/2024 or 2024/2025 academic years.
The LRA said the institutions included in the exercise were determined based on graduation records available to the Authority when the candidate pool was compiled and its current staffing requirements.
It stressed that the selection of the institutions should not be interpreted as an assessment of the quality or standing of universities or their graduates.
Universities that believe eligible honor graduates were left out have been invited to contact the LRA through its Customs Department for review.
The verification exercise for graduates whose names appeared on the published list is scheduled to run from Monday, August 17, through Friday, August 21, 2026, at LRA Headquarters during normal working hours.
The Authority stressed that only graduates whose names appeared on the published verification list are required to report during the exercise.
The LRA further clarified that submission of contact information is strictly an administrative and record-keeping requirement and does not amount to an offer of employment or guarantee of selection.
Following the verification process, eligible candidates will be required to participate in a competitive assessment.
Final recruitment decisions, according to the LRA, will be based on candidates’ merit, performance throughout the assessment process and the Authority’s operational staffing requirements.
The LRA also clarified that the recruitment is not open to the general public.
It is restricted to honor graduates from the specified universities, academic categories and graduation years identified in the recruitment notice.
The Authority said it regrets any confusion caused by its earlier notice and thanked graduates, universities and members of the public for their interest in the recruitment initiative.
The clarification was issued by Jerry Laynumah Siakor, Acting Communication Manager and Officer-in-Charge of Communications at the Liberia Revenue Authority.
