Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA) has awarded a prestigious scholarship to a Liberian student to pursue a Master’s Degree in Advanced Maritime Studies at Dalian University in the People’s Republic of China, marking another significant investment in the development of Liberia’s maritime human-resource capacity.
The scholarship recipient, who was selected through an independent and competitive vetting process, is expected to depart Liberia on August 30, 2026, to begin his advanced studies in China.
Dalian University is internationally recognized as one of the premier institutions for maritime education, research and professional training, providing specialized academic and technical programs designed to prepare maritime professionals to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving global maritime industry.
The scholarship was made available to Liberia through the Government of the People’s Republic of China, reflecting the growing cooperation between Liberia and China in the areas of maritime education, capacity building and human-resource development.
Speaking on the scholarship, Commissioner/Chief Executive Officer of the Liberia Maritime Authority, Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe Sr., described the scholarship as very important for Liberia’s maritime training and professional development agenda.
“This scholarship represents an important opporruniy for quality maritime training. We must continue to invest in our people because the strength and competitiveness of Liberia’s maritime sector depend greatly on the knowledge, skills and professionalism of our human resources,” Cllr. Lighe said.
The LiMA CEO emphasized that the Authority’s commitment extends beyond strengthening Liberia’s maritime regulatory and operational systems to ensuring that Liberian professionals are equipped with the advanced knowledge and technical expertise required to compete effectively in the international maritime sector.
