The Ministry of Justice secured 77 convictions from 99 criminal cases prosecuted before courts across Liberia during the May 2026 Term of Court, according to Minister, Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh.
The prosecution team took 99 cases to trial during the term, with 77 resulting in convictions, while 11 cases ended in acquittals and another 11 in hung juries.
The results represent a conviction rate of about 78 percent among the cases brought to trial during the term.
The Ministry of Justice said the outcome reflects the continued efforts of its prosecutors to represent the Republic of Liberia in criminal proceedings and pursue cases through the judicial system.
The 77 convictions constituted the majority of cases tried during the term, while the acquittals and hung juries reflected the different outcomes reached through the judicial process.
The Ministry said the performance underscores the role of prosecutors in advancing criminal justice and ensuring that criminal cases brought before the courts are properly litigated.
It commended members of the prosecution team for what it described as their dedication, professionalism and commitment throughout the May Term of Court.
The Ministry also urged prosecutors to remain steadfast in the discharge of their duties while upholding justice, fairness and the rule of law in prosecuting cases on behalf of the Liberian government.
The latest figures provide an overview of the prosecution’s performance during the May term as the Justice Ministry continues to pursue criminal cases before courts across the country.
