A hypocrite is a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion; or: a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings. Despite being called a hypocrite by Nimba County Senator Prince Y. Johnson’s (PYJ) political party-the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) for its strongest release regarding the elevation as Chairman on the Senate Committee on Defense, Intelligence and Veteran Affairs of notorious warlord PYJ, pundits are challenging all wise and sober thinkers to look outside the box because what more can United States Government say in that direction.
The pundits also added that those radicalizing the trend of unfolding event are doing so with their faces buried in their hands, knowing the weight, force, global persuasion and power the United States commands; especially gracing individuals with unwarranted characters with chronic conduct bordering on fiercely threatening security and stability under the rubric of being a warlord upon committing horrendous crimes against humanity coupled with the ruthless posture of having done anything wrong.
Rather than listen very quietly and perhaps, talk very less as a signal of remorse, knowing what is negatively hanging over you from the role played in the 14 years of the civil war wherein heavily decorated militarily as Field Marshall and commanding one of the dare devil warring factions, you instead elected to be treacherously boastful of owing no one an apology to say the least, having successfully taken cover behind the pulpit, forgetting to know the fate of thousands that were killed by your war machine, are still wailing for justice, while you proclaimed yourself as a savior and redeemer, who fought vehemently to save your people from the barbaric scourge of massacre unleashed by the power of the day; despite being rewarded by being elected twice as senator of said county, but make no mistake as you are soberly aware that when the United States of America squeezes, the whole world catches pneumonia immediately, the pundits declared.
With the government presently hooked on shifting blame on its successor of not establishing the war crime court during its tenure, when the security operations in the country was very good, large and promising, carefully under the supervision of the United Nations Peacekeepers (UNMIL); the establishment of the latter was the cardinal commitment and over sung political slogan of the today’s administration while still in the opposition community, but for now, it has no expectation of wanting to hearing about such anymore, and why, remains anyone’s first guess; even though the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) sanctioned the establishment of such body.
The hullaballoo erupted of late when the US Embassy near Monrovia released a strongly straight-to-the-face worded statement upon the elevation of PYJ to occupy the chairmanship of the Senate Committee no Defense, Intelligence and Veteran Affairs, something the US Embassy totally rejects for a notorious warlord like PYJ to preside over; which the Senate has reportedly taken note of.
Accordingly, the U.S. Embassy strongly condemns the election on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 of notorious warlord Prince Y. Johnson as Chair of the Liberian Senate Committee on Defense and Intelligence.
The statement added that Senator Johnson’s gross human rights violations during Liberia’s civil wars are well-documented; his continued efforts to protect himself from accountability, enrich his own coffers and sow division are also well known.
That the Liberian Senate would see fit to elevate him to a leadership role – particularly in the area in which he has done this country the most harm – creates doubts as to the seriousness of the Senate as a steward of Liberia’s defense and security, the statement pointed out.
The U.S. government is proud of “our longstanding partnership with the Ministry of National Defense and Armed Forces of Liberia which will continue – but we can have no relationship with Senator Johnson”, intoned the statement.
At the same time, the statement also maintains that “we note as well the continuation of Counselor Varney Sherman, sanctioned by the U.S. Department of the Treasury for corruption involving judicial bribery, as chair of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, Human Rights, Claims and Petitions”.
By giving Senators Johnson and Sherman these leadership roles, the Senate is effectively ensuring that corruption and lack of accountability flourish.
However, this statement released by the US Embassy did not find comfort with the political party of PYJ as it responded with shock, dismay and condemnation of US not being honest to itself.
Moreover, Senator Prince Johnson’s Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) has termed the United States Embassy press statement Wednesday as a travesty of justice and accused the embassy of being a hypocrite.
In reaction to Senator Johnson’s ascendency as chairman of the Senate committee on Defense and Intelligence, the US Embassy branded the Nimba County Senator as a “notorious warlord whose gross human rights violations during the country’s 14-year civil wars are well documented”.
But the MDR in a reaction said the characterization of its political leader by the embassy as “notorious warlord” is an affront to the people of Nimba County in whose interests Senator Johnson was defending during the civil wars.
MDR also criticized the US Embassy for raising “unnecessary alarm” over the ascendency of Senator Johnson to such committee when he had served on previously during the tenure of former president Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf and had a cordial relationship with former United States Ambassador to Liberia Linda Thomas Greenfield.
“This is not the first time Senator Johnson has chaired this committee. In 2005, he chaired this committee and worked closely with former United States Ambassador to Liberia,” the release noted.
