How I Think Of A Patriot

A Poem

I think of a Patriot as someone with an unyielding conscience and the righteous incline to defiantly put country above self;

I think of a Patriot as someone who unconditionally loves his/her country and carries in the heart a burning flame of nationalism;

I think of a Patriot as someone who fearlessly stands in defense of his/her country’s cause—even at the peril of his/her life;

I think of a Patriot as someone who truly loves and cares for his/her fellow countrymen and is really ‘tooth and nail’ to stand up for them at all times;

I think of a Patriot as someone who just not perfectly recites a National Pledge of Allegiance and finely sing the National Anthem of his/her country, but someone consumed with the firing spirit of national consciousness and uses such consciousness for the good and glory of his/her country;

I think of a Patriot as someone with the intuition to form and express strong national opinions and possess the will, courage, fortitude, and bravery to advance their opinions into gallant action under any given condition;

I think of a Patriot as someone with an abiding faith in his/her country and no matter what shall never give up fighting to right the wrongs and reposition his country on the proper pathway;

I think of a Patriot as someone who will fiercely detest and resist injustice, oppression, subjugation, deprivation, dehumanization, and impoverishment of the masses by the power that be;

I think of a Patriot as someone who loudly and furiously rebukes the exploitation of his country by wicked, corrupt, and nefarious public officials, and shall never connive and collude with others to steal from his country, defraud and subject the squalor-poor masses to deeper socioeconomic despair;

I think of a Patriot as someone who will not bow in utter fear and silence amid the occurrence of national excesses, morass, debauchery, and dissonance caused by dishonorable, hawkish, voracious, and parochial elements at the helm of authority;

I think of a Patriot as someone with dare, dread, and searing passion to resist the evils perpetrated against his homeland by any means possible insofar the cause is righteous and the end is justified;

I think of a Patriot is someone who seeks power as an opportunity to serve his people and honor humanity, not as means of amassing wealth through theft and graft, acquiring luxurious condos, wobbling in fame, and actualizing garish lifestyle at the expense of the national coffers;

I think of a Patriot as someone selfless and firebrand, someone who values good over gold and epitomizes the ‘Standard of Life’ over the ‘Standard of living;

I think of a Patriot as someone who champions the cause of equality, justice, freedom, rights, and humanity for ALL, not FEW;

I think of a Patriot as someone who even with guns pointed at his/her head and neck at the guillotine, will scream aloud the truth to the despotic faces of the wicked and wretched oppressors;

I think of a Patriot as someone with a moral conscience and ethical compass whose only agenda is the social transformation of his homeland and the socioeconomic advancement, peace, and happiness of his people;

I think of a Patriot as someone who will celebrate right over wrong, love over hate, unity over division, togetherness over exclusion, honor both majority and minority, country over political parties, nationalism over tribalism, goodness over evils, hope over fear, optimism over pessimism, faith over cynicism, and peace over war.

And finally, I think of a Patriot as someone who never sheath the sword even as the battle rages against him/her, he/she shall remain fighting and fighting until the shining dawn of victory arise and the trumpet thumbs the ballad of victory from the mountaintop…and the fate of Uhuru gloriously manifest in the land and the people celebrate and exchange glad tidings of freedom and hope of a new dawn.
