The Standard Bearer of the Unity Party (UP), Dr. Joseph N. Boakai, Sr., said the tendency of some Liberians to take the law in their own hands and resulting into increase of violence is due to rampant corruption in the Liberian Society, incentivized by the prevailing culture of impunity.
Dr. Boakai, who is also a political leader in the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), frowned on incidents happening around the country occasioned by a breakdown in the Rule Of Law in Liberia.
The former VP said various recent incidents around the country attest to the fact that due to poor governance and the lack of speedy justice, the people are losing faith with government officials in all three branches of the government.
Requesting for immediate justice for the victims through due process, Dr. Boakai gave as examples the two recent incidents of violence in Gata, Nimba County and Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County which led to the destruction and looting of private and public properties, including businesses belonging to citizens in Ganta and members of the Fulani community in Zwedru.
In a release issued on Monday, May 31, 2021 Hon. Boakai said he was appalled by the destruction of public properties, especially the recent burning of the local Police headquarters in Zwedru.
The UP Standard Bearer said he strongly deplores the vandalism and challenges the Ministry of Justice to ensure that the perpetrators are booked and victims of the situation are speedily served justice.
