October 8, 2020. Monrovia Liberia: Ahead of the much-heralded senatorial elections slated for December 8, 2020, the Collaborating Political Party (CPP) has threatened to hold a sustained nationwide protest in the country beginning October 28, 2020. According to the CPP in its one-page press release issued Wednesday, October 8, 2020, the protest will continue in as much as their demands which include but not limited to, cleaning the voter roll, cancellation and properly redoing what she describes as a fraudulent voter roll update and other pressing national issues affecting the lives of the Liberian people are not addressed.
“This decision comes at a time when our country is on a path of imminent decay as our systems fail us. We cannot overemphasize the importance of having free, fair and credible elections. We cannot overemphasize the importance of protecting your votes and ensuring that your voices are heard at the ballot box”, CPP declares.
Moreover, the CPP in its press statement has frowned on any attempt by Weah’s government to rig the upcoming elections and subvert the will of the Liberian people who are living under unbearable circumstances. The CPP noted that a fraudulent and rigged election is detrimental to Liberia’s peace and stability.
Certainly, political commentators and Liberians from slum communities from what Parrot Newspaper has gathered bears semblance of the CPP’s fear of vote rig. During the so-called voter roll update, almost all the polling places were packed with first-time voters, majority of whom were minions who flooded the voter registration queues. And truly, this seems to be the strategy of the ruling CDC to reclaim Montserrado County from the CPP’s candidate Darius Dillon and perhaps, Grand Bassa and a few other counties from the opposition. Pundits believe that CDC’s government has lost favour with the Liberian people and wants to use all sorts of fraudulent means to maintain state power.
During the outset of the fraudulent voter roll update, the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Samuel D. Tweah, under his a pen name, ‘Priscal Paul’, he uses on social media started in these few words, “Da so-so Academy Players we are carrying on them. Go to the polling places and see the highlight. Lol”.
But according to the CPP, she has begun engaging other political parties, pressure groups, civil society organisations, etc to join her in order to jealously protect the Liberian people votes and fight for free, fair and transparent elections. “We call on all Liberians, home and abroad to join this effort and mandate the government and its NEC to implement our demands in order to protect your votes and rescue the country from further decline”, CPP declared.
