Monrovia, Liberia – Criminal Court “C” has cleared former Director General of the General Services Agency (GSA) Mary Broh of criminal charges following a decision by Assigned Judge Ousman F. Feika to grant the prosecution’s application for nolle prosequi.
On August 11, 2026, Judge Feika granted the application, effectively bringing the criminal proceedings against Broh to an end.
Broh had been charged by the Government of Liberia in June 2025 along with several other former government officials. The charges included theft of property, economic sabotage, misuse and illegal disbursement of public funds, misapplication of entrusted property, abuse of office and criminal conspiracy.
The case stemmed from the alleged mismanagement of a donation of 29,412 bags of rice provided to Liberia by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center in 2023.
The rice was donated during the administration of former President George Weah and was intended to support Liberians affected by disasters, including fires and floods.
According to court records, investigators alleged that more than 25,000 bags of the donated rice were either diverted or could not be properly accounted for, with an estimated value of approximately US$425,000.
Broh was reportedly the only defendant removed from the case shortly before the commencement of the August Term of Court.
Other defendants remain facing trial in connection with the case, including former Foreign Affairs Minister Maxwell Kemayah and Thelma Sawyer, widow of former Liberian President Amos Sawyer.
The court’s decision brings an end to the prosecution of Broh in the rice-related case, while proceedings against the remaining defendants continue.
