Budget War! -As Freedom Retreats; Sycophantic Disregard Eclipses Honesty; While Floating Revenues Uncaptured in the Budget; Alarming Allotted Questionable Figures Cause Tsunami; Who Heals The Open-Mole

Commentary

When a duly and democratically elected leadership begins to act in such a sneaky and covert fashion, then obviously, it has cleverly demarcated the space for what it intends the people to know, and not dare question how come, and, why is this; is exactly the  traditional practice that the political show babies do; and when caught in a  dragnet, then in the process of giving excuse, it soon ends up  in issuing explanation that is too far less, and absolutely insignificant, and bears no fruitful reason for the interest of the people, moreover the country, instead of logically delving on the excuse and over colored designs.

As the ruling establishment is already gloating all over the place for presenting the highest budget over US$780 million, and despite being heavily revenue-starved  to have an easy ride in fulfilling the objective of the embattled budget in the midst of war; now dubbed ‘budget war’, it has equally created some unjustifiable line items embedded within; and as  financial and economic experts in their scrutiny of the budget, still finding it much harder why money should be allotted for private venture out of the national budget, when whatsoever spent from the budget must be strictly connected to binding national interest, growth and development of the people and state; instead of squeezing freedom into retreat; as  sycophantic commitment disregards and eclipses honesty and sincerity; while floating revenues uncaptured in the budget; alarming allotted questionable figures cause Tsunami; and now, who will heal the open-roof created as  the result of blind and overly frightened loyalty?

Currently, what the nation is pathetically experiencing is confidence crisis between the direct consumers, who have been let down in the process, of the substance of the budget emulating from accrued taxes and additional budgetary supports, and the vested uncompromising interest of the crafters coupled with those constitutionally empowered to include worthwhile items of supreme attentions with direct positive impact on  the people and the nation; and without hesitation, exclude all wastes; despite the obvious  clear-cut roadmap, but what is very annoying is the intentional exclusion of other aspects of revenue generation at the heart of the budget war,  just why are those floating revenues are not captured by the budget when such revenues are the people’s money, but must not be used for the benefit of the very owners of the money. I wonder just why is that.

However, while the National Legislators are still bracing the heated task of giving the budget a thorough check-up before being passed into law, upon being signed by he President, despite the perceived and alleged flaw and questionable conduct pointed out in the budget regarding the much chided inclusion of the US$30K for each lawmakers as Legislative Engagement for the second time, the three branches of government have been sternly informed on International Anti-Corruption Day to work on much harder on its corruption appetite, clean up its image in that direction to restore the much needed tarnished trust, confidence and credibility, now very difficult for the people to uphold those bruised building blocks of which the three branches are being allegedly accused of not making good out of such bad situation, which according to observers, is very troubling.

According to pundits and critics, they (elements of the leadership) are so addicted to feeding the governed with impression that they are progressively up to this, and that fantastically; and out of their subtle  capability of dealing with  high profile, strategically-placed  and well-positioned-people internationally, which anxiously remains to be seen practically on the home front; has landed them pathetically in the dominion as politically challenged, and gushing out in public, the impermissible toxic politics, while rejecting the vividly natural phenomenon and practical  reality, that despite the unbearable temperature, snow  cannot, and will not fall in hell; and that is the very simple and clear  scenario.

But mine you though, the regime that solely buried  its operations on the so-called fast moving conveyer belt, is not even good, at least to say better, at influencing and getting its package of needs and wants across the foreign tables for considered assistance and maximum cooperation; something it goes into with microphone diplomacy from the onset, and when obstacles eclipsed the returned result, that’s when it believes that snow must fall in hell to cool the hearts, minds and souls of the governed.

Moreover, this very regime is deeply rooted in secret operations by virtue of its internal activities, clandestinely-driven. Again, when a duly and democratically elected leadership begins to act in such a sneaky and covert fashion, then obviously, it has cleverly demarcated the space for what it intends the people to know, and not dare question how come, and, why is this; is exactly the  traditional practice the political state drivers do; and when caught in a  dragnet, then in the process of giving excuse, it soon ends up  in issuing explanation that is too far less, and absolutely insignificant, and bears no fruitful reason for the interest of the people, moreover the country, instead of logically delving on the excuse.

At the same time, on the 2021 International Anti-Corruption Day,  the US Government  noted that “we call on all three branches of the Government of Liberia to acknowledge that public officials should not receive financial benefit from their positions other than their salary and should take all necessary measures to stand up to the corruption that continues to erode the trust between the government and its people”.

With these designations, Treasury encourages all governments to implement anti-corruption reforms to address vulnerabilities. It stated that today (ant- corruption day) also marks the official start of the Summit for Democracy, which highlights corruption as one of the three areas most critical for democracies to address.

President Joseph R. Biden said, in his June 2021 action establishing the fight against corruption as a core national security interest, that “Corruption corrodes public trust; hobbles effective governance; distorts markets and equitable access to services; undercuts development efforts; contributes to national fragility, extremism, and migration; and provides authoritarian leaders a means to undermine democracies worldwide.

When leaders steal from their nations’ citizens or oligarchs flout the rule of law, economic growth slows, inequality widens, and trust in government plummets.” The U.S. Mission in Liberia has long reported on the pervasiveness of corruption within the Government of Liberia, including in the annual Human Rights Report.

Organizations such as Transparency International also score Liberia very poorly in terms of corruption. But more than that, Liberian Government officials and citizens themselves regularly report on corrupt government activities that reach across all sectors of governance and society.

No government is free from corruption, but no government can improve its democracy without simultaneously attacking corruption, and that effort must start at the very top, both in word and in deed, the release added.

As a clear and plain reminder to the lawmakers working on the current questionable budget, the long journey of the plight of Nimba County’s hooked Senator Prince Y. Johnson, now being sanctioned by the US Department of Treasury, practically reflects as a warning shot to all members of the three branches of the Liberian Government of greater and amazing things to befall those who will not shape in or get set to shape out.
